Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about learning with L Plus P
It depends on your experience and how quickly you progress. Complete beginners typically need 10–20 hours of professional instruction. Those with some supervised driving experience usually need 5–10 hours. We assess your ability during the first lesson and recommend the right package for your situation.
We cover 24 suburbs across Sydney: North Ryde, East Ryde, Ryde, West Ryde, Macquarie Park, Eastwood, Epping, Castle Hill, North Rocks, Carlingford, Beecroft, Telopea, Dundas, Ermington, Rydalmere, Melrose Park, Meadowbank, Rhodes, Gladesville, Putney, Silverwater, Newington, Auburn, and Chatswood. Contact us if you are not sure whether your suburb is included.
For learner drivers under 25, every 1 hour of professional instruction with an accredited driving instructor counts as 3 logbook hours under the NSW Roads scheme. A 10-hour package therefore counts as 30 logbook hours toward your 120-hour requirement — saving months of supervised driving.
After each lesson your instructor fills in your logbook with the hours completed. The logbook records 3 hours per 1 hour of professional instruction automatically. When you reach 120 logbook hours, you are eligible to sit the driving test. You can mix supervised and professional hours.
Yes. We provide our fully inspected automatic car on test day and pick you up from your preferred location. We know all local test routes at Ryde, Silverwater, Castle Hill, Hornsby, and Chatswood, so you will arrive calm and prepared.
Yes. We tailor lessons to help you understand Australian road rules, adapt to local road conditions, and confidently pass the NSW practical driving test. All lessons conducted in our automatic cars. The number of lessons needed depends on your existing skill level and which country you are converting from.
Casual lessons start from $60 for 1 hour, from $85 for 1.5 hours, and from $110 for 2 hours. Our 5-hour pack is $275 (save $25) and our most popular 10-hour pack is $550 (save $50 and earn 30 logbook hours via the 3-for-1 scheme). Test preparation: Mock Test $65, Test Day Package $170, 6 Hours + Test Day $500. All prices include free pick-up and drop-off.
Our casual lesson prices start from $60/hr. Your exact rate is confirmed instantly when you book — it varies slightly based on your suburb. Suburbs close to North Ryde are at the base rate; more distant suburbs may be slightly higher. Package prices (5-hour, 10-hour) and test preparation prices are fixed at the rates shown.
Every friend you refer = 10% off your next booking. They get 10% off their first lesson. Each referral earns you a separate discount — refer ten friends, get 10% off ten different future bookings. The discounts don't stack on one booking (it's always 10% off, not 20%). Contact us once your referral has completed their first lesson to claim yours.
For casual lessons, you pay your instructor directly after each lesson — no upfront payment required. For packages (5-hour and 10-hour) and test preparation bookings, payment is made upfront when you book. This locks in your price and secures your spot.
You can book online using the booking form on this website, send us a WhatsApp message, or call Mick on 0469 370 978 or Sidra on 0451 331 140. We confirm all bookings within 1 hour and send a WhatsApp reminder the day before your lesson.
We ask for at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a lesson. Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice may incur a cancellation fee. Lessons cancelled well in advance can be rescheduled at no charge.
Yes — our 10-hour pack includes a pass guarantee. If you complete all 10 hours with us and do not pass the driving test, we will provide additional lessons at no extra cost until you pass. Terms and conditions apply — please ask when booking.
All you need is your current NSW learner licence (L plate). No need to bring your own logbook for the first lesson — your instructor will advise on the correct logbook format after assessing your needs.
Absolutely. Both Mick and Sidra have extensive experience with anxious and nervous drivers. We work at your pace, never rush you, and use calm, encouraging communication throughout every lesson. Many of our most successful students started out very nervous.
All our lessons are conducted in our late-model automatic cars. We teach exclusively in automatic cars. Note that passing your test in an automatic means your licence will be restricted to automatic vehicles unless you separately pass a test in a manual car.
We accept cash, bank transfer, and most major debit and credit cards. Payment for lesson packs can be made before your first lesson or in full on the day. Please contact us for details.
Yes! Driving lessons make a fantastic gift for new drivers. Gift vouchers are available for any amount and can be sent digitally or as a physical card. Contact Mick or Sidra to arrange a voucher.
The Ryde test centre (Service NSW, Macquarie Shopping Centre) has a pass rate of approximately 50% — below the NSW state average. It is one of the busier and more technically demanding Sydney centres due to high-speed arterial roads and heavy traffic near Macquarie University. We prepare all our North Ryde, Ryde, and Macquarie Park students specifically for the routes and intersections used by Ryde assessors.
Yes, we run lessons seven days a week including weekends. Weekend slots are popular and book out quickly, especially Saturday mornings. We recommend booking at least 1–2 weeks ahead for weekend availability. Use the booking form on this site or WhatsApp Mick directly to check the next available slot.
You must bring your current NSW learner licence (or overseas licence if converting) and your logbook showing you have completed the required hours. Wear comfortable clothes and flat shoes. If you are using our car for the test, we handle insurance and roadworthiness — you just need to show up. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to settle in.
As a learner driver under 25, you must hold your L plates for at least 12 months and complete 120 logbook hours (including 20 hours at night) before you can sit the driving test. With our 3-for-1 scheme, 10 professional hours count as 30 logbook hours — significantly reducing how long it takes to reach 120 hours. After passing your P1 test, you hold P plates for at least 12 months before progressing to P2 (another 24 months minimum).
